Summer Randoms

I was looking through my photo files and found a few that I hadn't posted.  Randoms from our summer.

At the pool.

We've been eating a lot of sweet corn.

Noodles & Company had free macaroni and cheese on National Macaroni and Cheese Day!

We can't keep up with all of the cucumbers from the garden.

Drinking water from the well at Mr. Dodd's farm.

Picking corn!

Basketball!

Graydon reading his Bible with me in the morning.

Painting on the deck.

Bella pretending to check Curtis's heart while we waited for the doctor at his check-up.

Curtis was running through the house on his way to the bathroom and banged his head on the wall.  We often joke about his "hard head" because it never seems to hurt him when it gets bumped.  And if he knocks heads with another person, they are usually the ones crying in pain.  But this was different.  He hit it pretty hard.  After it happened, Bella was by his side trying to offer him whatever kind of comfort she could think of.

He got quite a boo-boo.

School has already started here (August 5th!  Photos coming soon!).  I'm always a little sad to see summer come to an end, especially here when it's a month shorter than I'm used to!  But we did a lot of fun stuff this summer:

  • visit Mimi Jane at the shore
  • eat watermelon
  • go out for ice cream
  • camp out in the living room
  • swimming
  • catch fireflies
  • ride bikes
  • play-doh
  • slip n'slide
  • run through the sprinkler
  • attend VBS
  • go berry picking
  • play board games
  • read a new book
  • make popsicles
  • nature walk
  • go to the park
  • go to the movies
  • pick veggies from the garden
  • sidewalk chalk
  • roast marshmallows/make s'mores
  • play catch
  • eat corn on the cob (and pick it!)
  • road trip to Wisconsin
  • attend the county fair
  • mail a letter
  • squirt gun fight
  • children's museum
  • go to camp
  • water balloon fight
  • build a fort
  • splash pad
  • go to a parade (it was decorated bikes, but still a parade!)
  • go to the library
  • attend "Art in the Park"
  • make a stepping stone
  • blow bubbles
  • make sidewalk chalk paint
There were a few things on my summer fun list that we didn't get to this summer.  I attribute that to a shorter summer out here and me needing to adjust my expectations of what we can fit in.  We didn't:
  • go to the zoo (still hope to this fall - we already have the tickets!)
  • star gazing - actually hard to do here when the sky doesn't get dark until almost 10pm all summer!
  • go to a farmer's market - we've been getting so much free produce from farmer friends that we haven't needed anything
  • wash the car - no excuse there
  • do science experiments - started to get them set up one day, got distracted and never finished
  • make homemade ice cream - I have the ingredients.  We are doing this!
  • go bird watching - we noticed the birds. . . but didn't officially "watch" them
  • invent something - this was a stretch, it seemed like a fun idea if the mood struck.  It didn't. :)
  • play frisbee - we may have done this if we actually had a frisbee! :P
I loved this summer.  We stayed up late, we slept in late.  We managed to fit in a lot but not run around busy.  But it's time to get more structure into our days.  Back to school here we come!
