Track Highlights

Still playing a little catch-up on our late spring. . .

The boys had a great track season, especially Curtis. Here are some photos from the Mid Hoosier Conference track meet. This is a competition between six local schools, all similar sizes. Our sectionals have our small 1A school up against big 4A schools, so it's difficult for our team to advance in the post season. So this competition against schools of the same size is where we place our emphasis.

The boys track team came in 1st place with the most points!

Curtis ran the 4x100 meter relay and their group won the race, naming each of them as All-Conference and earning their spot at the Mid Hoosier Conference Championship banquet.

This is the one photo I took of Curtis's team at sectionals. They didn't win this race, but their time in the relay earned them as spot at the regional competition! The Hauser track team did not advance, but these four plus one of our distance runners qualified!

Sweet Sixteen for Curtis! He is now just days away from getting his driver's license and stepping into a new season of independence. Curtis kept pretty busy this past year with three sports: tennis, basketball, and track. The basketball team made it to the final four at State and he helped his team break the school record in the 4x100 meter relay in track! He continues to love his chocolate milk and is always trying to eat enough calories to bulk up a little. Curtis works hard at whatever he does and it shows. He is kind, respectful, dependable, and keeps a good attitude. His calm, steady personality is a gift to our family and I couldn't be more proud of the young man he is becoming.

Happy 16th birthday, Curtis! We love you and are so happy to celebrate you today!

Christine Joy Kilps

Andy’s mom passed away on Tuesday, April 22nd. Immediately, Andy went back up to WI to say his final goodbye and be with his dad and siblings. She wanted a green burial, so a private ceremony with was held a few days later. Her official celebration of life was held on Saturday, May 16th.

We all traveled up for that. This photo makes me laugh. We went out to breakfast with my parents and the kids were all crammed in the third row. They don’t fit as well as they used to.

Laura gave a really nice eulogy and, in honor of her mom who loved taking photos, Laura took a selfie of everyone who gathered together to remember her mom.
It was a pretty full church.

After the service, most everyone gathered for a meal.

Guy and Susan Herling were there. We hadn’t seen them since we lived in the back of their house in 2003! That was a fun surprise.

It was nice to all be together. Andy’s dad had so many cards to go through. To lighten the load, we all took turns reading cards and sharing who they were from. Most of our teenagers aren’t the best at reading cursive, especially handwritten cursive. It felt like we were listening to six-year-olds learning to read - and it led to a lot of laughter!

End-of-Year Band Concert

Our final band concert of the year was the evening of May 13th. We always hope for an outdoor concert, but the weather doesn’t like to cooperate, so we ended up in the main gym. I love listening to the band. Mr. Klinger has done a great job building the program and making them sound terrific. I also love his song selections. They began with the opening theme to the Muppets and it was so fun. My other favorites from the night were “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Another Day in the Sun” from La La Land.
