Our flight was at 6am out of Indianapolis, so we drove up and got a hotel the night before. I slept terribly. I don't think I even fell asleep until after 2am and then we woke up at 3am to head to the airport. We flew for a few hours and had a layover in Dallas. I slept for about 20 minutes at a McDonalds in the Dallas airport, but otherwise couldn't get much rest on the planes. Here we are finally landing at the San Jose Los Cabos Airport. I'm definitely looking a little rough, but happy to have finally arrived.
We decided to head out for a morning walk through the resort and onto the beach.
This ended up being my favorite drink of the week (and we sampled many): Mango Margarita. We especially enjoyed the Tajin they put around every drink and purchased some to have at home.
We enjoyed all of our lunches by the pool.
The avocado crostini and star pastry were two items I included with every breakfast. So good!
All the beverages: mimosa, coffee, green juice, and water. I had a little laugh at the excess of it all.
Andy participated in a few more activities. The resort offered so many things to do. Andy did some archery and volleyball. They also offered beach walks, water aerobics, yoga, pickle ball, tennis, etc. No one should ever get bored. I sort of felt like I should do more activities, but I just didn't have the energy, so I rested. I did take a walk out to the beach one time to watch Andy play a little volleyball.
Another day, another sunrise.
We don't drink cocktails that often and didn't always know what to order. Andy just asked for the bartender to surprise him. This was what he got. It kind of tasted like bubble gum.
After breakfast, we'd go back to our room and change for the pool/beach. Then we'd get some coffee and cookies. Were we hungry yet? No. We just finished breakfast. Did that stop us? Also, no. When we got these drinks, we were a little confused. They ended up using our middle names from our room reservation instead of our first names.
And our last Cabo breakfast. This was Andy's plate. Something new I tried this week was cactus!
We stayed at Marquis Los Cabos Resort & Spa. I found this photo online. Our room was on the very top right in this photo, room 520.
The view that greeted us when we entered our room.
There was also a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting for us. This was after each of us already receiving a Hibiscus Margarita when we arrived at the resort.
There was also a sweet note accompanying it.
I think I took a little nap shortly after and, when we woke up, it was time for dinner. Neither of us had the energy to go out that night, so we ordered dinner to the room.
I think I was asleep by 7pm that night. I didn't feel as bad about that since it was 9pm in Indiana.
We were up a little after 5am the next morning. The sun rose there around 6:45am every morning and we always got a front row seat for it.
Another view from our room.
Outside our door, they had an anniversary sign for us. Lots of special touches.
We ate breakfast every morning at Vista Ballenas. They had the best breakfast buffet, although this morning, we ate from the omelette/breakfast taco station.
I loved the green juice and had it with every breakfast.
Time for some lounging by the pool. When I checked the forecast for this week, I was disheartened to see high temps in the low to mid 70's. That is still sweatshirt weather for me. So, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that 72 degrees in Mexico feels very different than 72 degrees in Indiana. I actually got hot!
Dinner that night was at the resort's asian restaurant. After all the eating from the day, I wasn't even hungry, but we had a 6pm reservation.
This is matcha cheesecake. I had zero room for dessert, but we decided to try it and I was grateful for the small portions. I don't even think we finished these.
I was checking on the kids' whereabouts on the Life 360 app and also saw Andy's location. It was fun to see where we were on the map.
We ventured off the resort on Friday to do some exploring in downtown Cabo. This excursion was a little overwhelming for us. Definitely crowded, very touristy, and several people coming up to us trying to sell us their products.
We booked a cruise on a clear boat to see the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas.
All the rock formations are what made this location stand out to us among the other beach vacations our travel agent presented us with.
Due to strong currents and rip tides, most of the beaches in Cabo are non swimmable. You even have to sign a liability waiver when checking in to the resorts. However, this beach, called Lover's Beach, is safe for swimming.
It's hard to see in this photo, but there is a walrus on the lower rocks. I ended up getting more video of that walrus than I did actual pictures.
Just beyond those rocks is Divorce Beach. Like most of Cabo, always very dangerous for swimming.
The famous arch!
In addition to the clear boat, we were going to book a whale watching tour. The clear boat ride we were on was about one hour. The whale watching would have been two hours. I still wasn't feeling the greatest and the boat ride we took made me a little nauseous. Also, all the whale watching tours were filled for the day and we'd have to come back another day. Neither of us really wanted to do that (it was a bout a 25 minute taxi ride to this part of the peninsula), so we decided to skip the whale watching. Fortunately, there was a lot of whale activity in the water right in front of our resort. I wasn't able to get the greatest photos or videos of it, but we saw lots of water splashing into the air from whale blow holes, several whales jump out of the water, lots of fin flapping, and even what looked like a mom and baby whale swimming and jumping together. I'm sure we would have gotten closer if we took a boat out, but we were satisfied with what we could see from the resort. There were also flying sting ray that entertained me.
We didn't get back to our resort until about 4pm that evening. We skipped lunch while we were out because we didn't want to buy food when we could get it for free at our resort, so by this point we were pretty hungry. Another meal by the pool was in order.
I spent a lot of time doing this. I ended up reading four books that week. And by reading, I also mean listening. I think I listened to two of them. I could tell I still wasn't feeling the greatest at first because reading just felt uncomfortable. I ended up listening to the books and just shutting my eyes. Very relaxing.
Andy also spent a lot of time in the pool. I finally got in the last two days we were there.
The brick-oven pizza they made was amazing. Definitely my favorite lunch.
We went on another beach walk to explore more of the pretty rock formations.
That's our resort in the background.
Another delicious breakfast.
All dressed up for dinner.
We spent a lot of time on our balcony in the morning. We were always really cautious out there. I don't think Mexico has the same regulations as the US because these railings felt very low. It kept the view from being blocked while we were sitting, but we didn't stand out there too much.
A picture we sent the kids while we were relaxing and they were at school. Mean parents.
We ate outdoors at La Pergola on our last night in Cabo. This was the resort's Italian restaurant. That evening, we were serenaded by a saxophone player. It was the perfect way to spend our last night.
Our last Cabo sunrise.
Thankfully, we were both feeling ready to come back. Andy got a pretty good burn from a two-hour walk on the beach, so he really could not handle another day in the sun. And I was also just ready to be back home. It's always nice to feel ready to leave at the end of a vacation.
Bye, bye Cabo! Thanks for all the memories!
While we were gone, my sister Mary was here with the kids. There ended up being special breakfasts for kids who were on the honor roll. One morning for high school and another morning for junior high. Mary attended these breakfasts with the kids and sent some photos to us.
And the first night we were back was Bella's basketball awards banquet. The received three awards: highest field goal percentage, most improved, and the scholastic award (for having the highest GPA). She also earned her third letter for basketball.
We were so glad to go to Cabo and now it feels so good to be home.
