Happy 6th Birthday, Curtis!

It seems pretty unreal that my YOUNGEST child is SIX! It really just hit me a few weeks ago. I mean, I knew all year that he was five. . . and that six is the number that comes after five.  Just . . . six. Wow.

Some important moments from this past year include: starting kindergarten, going to Disney World, and losing his first two teeth.

He saved up his own money this year and bought a Kindle Fire - his very own tablet. He loves to play games on there and to read on RAZ-kids. His favorite toys are still Legos. If I'm wondering where he is, my first thought is to check his room and 95% of the time, I will find him laying on him tummy on the floor with Legos scattered all around him as he builds some creation. I love that they keep him so occupied and that he's using his imagination. When he watches TV, Graydon seems to be the one who chooses the show or movie, but if he could have his way, his favorite show to watch is Ultimate Spiderman.

Curtis had a great first year of Elementary school and has made many great friends. He has also learned SO MUCH in one year! He started kindergarten still struggling with all of his letters. Now he knows all of the uppercase and lowercase letters as well as 80+ sight (rainbow) words and he can sound out tons more. Plus he can count to 100. I'm pretty proud of him. It wasn't always easy for him, but he did it! And as a result, he really enjoys reading. I hope that continues as he grows.

He is probably our most laidback, go-with-the-flow kid. He doesn't get too upset about too many things and his personality is fun and silly. We all love him so much!  Here are some of the highlights from this past year of Curtis's life. . .

Happy birthday sweet boy!

Summer So Far. . .

We're already a month in to our summer vacation. Here is what we've been up to. . .

Bella's motivation in the craft department coupled with her inspiration for decorating her room led her to create this "chandelier" for her room made from ribbon and circles punched out from white card stock.

It looks pretty cool in there.

We, along with 11 other families in town, are members of the pool that happens to be right across the street from our house. It is super convenient and we've been there a lot - sometimes twice a day!
IMG_3646

Walking home from the pool.
IMG_3647

Just got back from the dentist and all of us are cavity free!

The sun was bright and I couldn't see my phone screen. I didn't realize that I hit a filter for this photo of the kids jumping into the pool.

In addition to crafting, Bella is becoming quite a baker. She makes the best chocolate chip cookies - she does it from scratch and completely by herself. I'm already day-dreaming about each of my kids learning to cook and then assigning nights for each of them to make dinner. Someday! For now, I will appreciate any cookies that Bella is willing to bake.

Graydon went to a fun birthday party at a play place called Rascals. He got to drive go-carts all by himself. So fun!
IMG_3678

There were bumper boats too.
IMG_3679

And bumper cars.
IMG_3682

I also got to drive on the big course with Graydon as my passenger. I think this would be a really great place for our family to go to together.

Andy and I went to Brown County, Indiana for a pastor/spouse retreat. We were able to take a few easy hikes through the State Park. It was such a relaxing week.

A little carnival came to town.

Bella has been working on her diving.

We got some much-needed rain.
IMG_3759

Tears. Because we got near the end of the game, Life, and he still didn't have any kids.
IMG_3762

A stray beagle showed up in our yard. He was so friendly and we actually considered keeping him.  First, I had to bring him to the animal shelter in case anyone was looking for him. When I dropped him off, I gave our number to the woman at the desk, letting her know that we were interested in case nobody claimed him. The next day, I received a phone call that someone came for the dog. I guess it wasn't meant to be. But the fact that Andy was actually open to getting a dog is pretty much a miracle!

Father's Day. They are all sitting on Andy's big gift: a bench glider for the front porch. We still need to stain it, but it's already gotten a lot of good use.

Curtis's tinker-toy creation. If I remember correctly, I think he said it is a flying dragon.

Andy's parents and brother were in town this past week.

Tablet time: this was the quietest 1.5 hours of the whole week!
IMG_3782

This summer has been filled with many evenings at the ball field. Curtis finished up his t-ball season this past Thursday night.

Getting his trophy.

Graydon's baseball team ended the regular season in 1st place. A rain delay pushed the tournament games back one day. They won their tournament game on Friday night and are now playing in the championship game on Monday night. We won't be able to be at the game on Monday, but Graydon will have two trophies waiting for him when we get back from our vacation: one for his team ending the regular season in 1st place, and one for either being the tournament champion or runner-up team. He'll be a happy boy.

Pool time with the cousins and Uncle Tom.

We went back to Brown County to celebrate Andy's parents' 40th Anniversary that is coming up at the end of August.

Tomorrow we are loading up the van and heading to New Jersey for a week with Mimi Jane at the shore! We always enjoy being with her and have been looking forward to this week for a long time!

The Last Day of School

We finally made it to the last day of school! Such a happy day! I love the feeling of knowing that the whole summer is ahead.

The morning started with Curtis's Kindergarten Graduation!

He got an extra award for excellent attendance. He only missed half a day all year!

After the graduation ceremony and a light snack, Curtis was free to go home for the day. He took off with Andy while I accompanied the first graders to the park for the rest of the day. The afternoon was filled with sidewalk chalk, bubbles, games, story time at the library, ice cream, and of course face painting.
IMG_3615

When the school day ended, we headed right off to Bella's gymnastics class and then to a baseball game later on. Finally, we ended the day with a movie. (Curtis and Andy showed up at the park earlier in the day and Curtis was able to participate in some of the activities, which is why his face was painted.) Normally, I try to do some fun last day of school photos. This year, the afternoon/evening was just too full. This is pre-movie - already getting kind of tired.

It's finally summer!

Track and Field Day

The day before school let out for the summer was Track and Field Day. Another perk to my job is that I got to watch my kids at their various events.

The younger kids mainly had fun games/activities.

In the afternoon, the older kids got their turn. And they were much more competitive with actual track events.

Bella came in first in this race. I think it was a 100m sprint. She even beat the boys!

The fire company cooled things off when it got too hot.
